Program Review/Assessment

Program Review

Regularly scheduled program review supports academic excellence and integrity, and is required by SSU, the CSU, and our accrediting body, WASC Senior College and University Commission. The Office of Academic Programs provides departments and programs with support in the Program Review Process, typically a five-year cycle of review for all degree programs – undergraduate and graduate.

Departments and programs should consult with Academic Programs and with their School Dean prior to beginning their self-study. Each school also has an assessment coordinator who supports the department in their self-study process. Programs that have disciplinary or professional accreditation can use their externally defined process to meet their internal obligations.

All programs, including General Education, are responsible to maintain Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) for their programs and review these outcomes on a periodic basis. These SLOs should be assessed on a regular cycle and reported annually to the School Dean and the Office of Academic Programs.

Go to Student Learning Outcomes Annual Assessment Reports for the report format, due each year on or around December 1.

The American Association of Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) has been a leader in the area of educational effectiveness, student learning outcomes and assessment, and providing faculty with the tools to effectively assess student learning . The resources in Educational Effectiveness provide an excellent framework and support for faculty engaged in the important work of assessment of student learning.
