Online vs On Campus?

  • Online Pro: You can watch the presentations and work your way through the online orientation at your own convenience
  • Online Con: If you're watching at home and have questions, there won’t be anyone else to ask for clarification.
  • Online Pro: You can take and watch the orientation presentations as many times as you need to understand it.
  • Online Con: if you do not understand the subject material, most likely watching won’t help; live help will.
  • Online Con: You have to schedule an appointment with your major advisor on your own time.
  • On campus Pro: Advisors are notified in advance who will be at the on campus orientation and are waiting for you to visit them after the orientation sessions end.
  • On campus Con: You have to make yourself available for the day and be free from work or other classes.
  • On campus Pro: Everything is available to you that day and ready for you to take advantage of their services; Seawolf Services, Advisement; faculty and student question and answers, dining services.
  • On campus Con: You have already had academic advising before attending orientation.
  • On campus Pro: You can still get your ID card, parking permits, and speak to others who can help make your transition smooth.
  • On campus Pro: You can walk out of your afternoon advisement appointment to a computer lab on campus and register immediately- and get help if needed!
  • On line Pro: I can be sitting at my computer when my registration appointment begins.
  • Online Con: If there are technical difficulties, people in person will be helped before phone calls.
  • On campus Pro: You will meet other students who are making the same transition to SSU that you are and begin to make friends!
