Stevenson Hall Renovation Project Executive Summary

Sonoma State University has demonstrated consistently modest growth over the last decade (1% per year) with a current enrollment of 8,657 FTES (Fall, 2017) and Master Planned enrollment growth to 10,000 FTES. Stevenson Hall, the first built on the Sonoma State campus, is located and the physical heart of the University.   The renovation will help meet basic contemporary educational requirements. 

The details of the Stevenson Hall Renovation Project are outlined in the Stevenson Hall Renovation Feasibility Study Pre-RFQ Update and are necessary modifications required to meet the needs of the Schools of Social Sciences, Education, and Business and Economics.

The core objectives of the Stevenson Hall Renovation project are to:

  • Improve campus educational spaces to better meet the needs of the associated disciplines to improve utilization and learning out comes;
  • Improve building spatial efficiency, classroom utilization, and to provide faculty offices to support planned academic growth;
  • Improve environmental quality;
  • Reduce resource utilization (sustainability - energy and water);
  • Improve the functionality of outdoor space to increase its usability to students, faculty, and administration;
  • Create a welcoming environment for visitors, students, faculty, and staff.

Stevenson Hall Task Force Group Charge

    Purpose

  • Advise and recommend appropriate actions specifically as it relates to Stevenson Hall Pre-Construction, Construction and Post Construction activities and planning to the V.P. of Administration and Finance and the Provost.
  • Confirm all issues and/or options are considered that may arise or be of interest or concern to the campus in a timely manner regarding Pre-Construction, Construction and Post Construction activities. These issues may arise from the Task Force Group’s work or be brought to its attention.
  • Rationale

  • The Stevenson Hall Task Force Group is being formed, and has a diverse membership represented from the university to provide guidance, and advise on various issues specific to the Stevenson Hall Pre-Construction, Construction and Post Construction activities.
  • Time Frame

  • Meetings are to be scheduled monthly during the academic year and over the summer as required. The start date of the first meeting is proposed for April 2018 and the Stevenson Hall Task Force Group will conclude its charge, tentatively December 2022.

  • Specific tasks and timelines will be tied to, but not limited to the Stevenson Hall Project Plan Schedule, dated March 9, 2018.
