Mo Phillips | Director of Student Involvement

Hello and welcome to SSU! I have worked on the Sonoma State University campus since 1997. In my time at SSU, I have worked in Residential Life, Campus Life Programming and currently I serve the campus as the Director of Student Involvement, which includes Campus Wide Programming, Greek Life, Sports Clubs and General Clubs!  While this is the 5th University I have worked at in the past 29 years in Student Affairs, I have made Rohnert Park and Sonoma State University my home and have raised my own kids on and around the campus:)

I love the energy and spirit on campus, and that everyone works together to create a positive environment. We have so many wonderful students, staff and faculty who really have our campus community in mind as we all strive daily to uphold our Seawolf Commitment to Respect, Responsibility, Integrity and Excellence!  Go Seawolves!

Rob Smith | Campus Life Advisor: Sports Clubs

I started my career here at Sonoma State in 2014.  I completed both my undergraduate and graduate work at the University of San Francisco, obtaining a BA in Communication and a MA in Higher Education and Student Affairs.  I am originally from Sacramento and find myself in Sonoma after living in San Francisco, San Leandro, San Diego, and Santa Clara.  As the Campus Life Advisor working with Sport Clubs, I advise our 20+ competitive Sport Club teams.  These teams provide all students an opportunity to play their sport of interest at a competitive level.  If you are interested in getting involved with a sport club team or even starting a new one, come by the office!

In my free time, I enjoying playing soccer, doing outdoor activities, traveling, and food.  I am also a huge gamer so stop by if you want to talk video games.  My door is always open and I enjoy meeting and talking with students.  Come by and say hey.

Joanie Ly | Campus Life Advisor: General Clubs

Greetings Seawolves! I am the Campus Life Advisor for General Clubs, and you’ll quickly find that general clubs are not general at all. General clubs encompass all politically affiliated, cultural, academic, departmental, and even honor societies. We have over 100 general clubs at SSU and my role is to support these clubs through all processes from budgets to event planning to group dynamics.

A little about me: I was born and raised in Oakland, CA and then did my undergrad at UC San Diego where I majored in Political Science. After I graduated, I spent a couple years working in education technology non-profits and then decided to attend graduate school. I received my Masters in Education at Rutgers University specifically focusing on Student Affairs. I was an involved student leader in college where I was an Orientation Leaders, Resident Advisor, and international student advisor. It was through these experiences that I realized how much I loved connecting with students and then connecting these same students to resources on campus for success. I look forward to continuing to do that here at Sonoma State where my door is always open so please come by!

Jessica Roshak | Campus Life Advisor: Fraternity/Sorority Life

Student leaders, agents for social change, innovators, scholars—these are just a few words to describe the men and women of the Greek community at Sonoma State University (SSU) who I have the privilege of working with every day. With three councils made up of 22 chapters, Greek Life is home to nearly 20% of the undergraduate student body and these students have a significant positive impact on student life at SSU.

Originally from northeast Ohio, I graduated from Bowling Green State University (BGSU) in 2014 with a Bachelor of Applied Health Science where I was involved in a myriad of campus activities. From working in the Office of Service-Learning to serving on the Homecoming Student Steering Committee, I was constantly taking advantage of opportunities to get involved, but found my home in Greek Life. I received my Masters of Higher Education and Student Affairs from Baylor University in 2016 and am going into my second year at SSU. Working with student leaders is what energizes me and I would love to get to know you!

Kristen Reynolds | Program Coordinator

I’m so excited to be a part of the Sonoma State community! My pronouns are she/her or they/them. I’m a hardcore ENFP Virgo. I’m also an Air Force brat who was born in Texas, but spent most of my earliest years in Southern California. I’ve lived in Germany, North Carolina, Ohio, Indiana, and Virginia as well. I completed a degree in Biology at an HBCU in Charlotte, North Carolina called Johnson C. Smith University before going on to pursue a bachelor’s and master’s in English Lit at UNC Charlotte (not to be confused with UNC Chapel Hill).

I’m passionate about pop culture, especially all things Sci Fi & Fantasy (talk to me about Interstellar, Stranger Things, and The Expanse). I’m an avid reader and writer and it’s a dream of mine to one day publish a book. I’m also extremely passionate about integrating the values of diversity and equity into everything that I do – whether on or off campus. I look forward to getting to know you and working with you during my time at SSU! Stop by and say hi!
