About Food Connection

The Food Connection cultivates a connection with and understanding of food on campus and in society. Our education and resources focus on six integrated areas: nutrition, health, food preparation, sustainability, food justice and community. This site is a platform for the SSU community to share food-related information and happenings with others that are interested. Ultimately, the project goal is to promote enduring knowledge, enabling students, staff and faculty to make informed food choices and get involved.

What We Do

FC Reps
Food Connection has students representatives to host or assist with ongoing projects, special events (tastings, movie screenings, cooking classes, study breaks, field trips, etc.), educational material and social media.

We host community potlucks, food discussions, movie screenings and more. Check our calendar for more information.

Farm Stand
The FC runs a farm stand, where you can buy fresh produce on campus, during the Fall Semester. You can also sign up to be a part of the CSA, which means every week you’ll receive a box full of freshly picked fruits and vegetables.

Nutrition Consults
FC partners with Campus Rec Nutrition to provide you healthy eating education, skills, and personalized recommendations. Have a nutrition consult or attend a grocery store tour to learn how food can support you in looking and feeling your best!

Cooking Classes
The Food Connection coordinates multiple cooking classes with Dining Services chefs, Campus Rec Nutrition and FC Reps to provide you with the skills to make delicious meals in your own kitchen. We can also offer in-home cooking lessons for you and up to 3 friends.

The Food Connection organizes food-related volunteer days with groups such as Redwood Food Bank or the Petaluma Seed Bank.
