CCE's 10 Year Anniversary Party

Boo! On the scariest day of the year the CCE reached a great milestone and threw a huge celebration for it's 10 year anniversary. The CCE took over a large part of the bottom floor of the library where attendents enjoyed delicious treats and fun activities. As an intern blogger participating during this semester seemed like perfect timing. I learned about the different facets of community engagement and strengthened my commitment to service at a time of great local need.

The event had a large turnout of students, staff and faculty and many came dressed in their spookiest costumes. A giant orange birthday card outside the CCE allowed guests to leave their best wishes. A decorate your water bottle station, invited participants to use multi-colored tape and stickers to come up with their best works of art. While everyone enjoyed candy, cookies and other sweet treats, a projection detailing the history of the CCE played on one of the walls. The selfie station, which had a big frame and masks, proved extremely popular.

Celebrations are about reflecting where we have been and envisioning where we may go next. Dr. Emily Acosta, Communications and Media Studies professor collaborated with the CCE teaching service-learning courses to freshman. In her opinion, such courses expose students to issues in the community and outside of themselves as well as plant the seed of service. For Vic Liptak, Accreditation and Assessment Coordinator at SSU, the CCE has 10 years of excellent work and will play a fundamental role with WASC recommendations as well as the rebuilding of the community post fires. The CCE's involvement with Trunk or Treat event for fire victims and the Service and Internship Fair this month highlight that said work has already begun.

Just having fun!
