Kelly Henry is an attorney and educator.

Kelly Henry holds a Juris Doctor degree from the University of California Hastings College of the Law, where she won the Cali & Witkin Awards for her work on terrorism and the law and social justice lawyering, and a B.A. in politics and psychology from NYU.

Kelly Henry’s legal practice includes state and federal civil and criminal matters. Her focus is on post conviction appeals and prison conditions. She is passionate about educating people on how to obtain government records through the Public Records Act and Freedom of Information/Privacy Act (FOIA).

Academic Interests:

Kelly Henry taught the Community Law Program at UC Hastings, a street law program that placed students in the San Francisco jail and in high schools. She teaches Introduction to Criminal Justice and Public Policy and Punishments and Corrections in the SSU Criminology and Criminal Justice Department. She teaches the Master of Arts courses Activist Legal Skills and Campaigning for Social Justice in the CIIS Anthropology and Social Change Department.

She is an active National Lawyers Guild member, formerly a San Francisco Bay Area Board Member and past National Resolutions Committee Chair. She is a co-founder of its Police and Prisons Committee, and leads the Support From Outside training series that aims to assist people in developing skills to support incarcerated people. She is a also co-founder of the Prisoner Advocacy Network, a group that trains and pairs people to provide legal advocacy to activists in solitary confinement. Kelly Henry serves on the Legal Advisory Team for TGIJP (Transgender Gender Variant & Intersex Justice Project).
