So you chose SSU! Excellent!

We are excited that you will be joining us and we hope your experience here will be amazing! Remember that you will need to work with your home campus NSE coordinator and be accepted into the NSE program before we at SSU will be able to work with you. It is important that you stay in communication with your home campus coordinator as well as us here at SSU throughout this process! (Be sure to check your spam folder in your email!)

Once you are accepted into the SSU NSE program, we will be emailing you with additional important information. Be sure to sign and return your Placement Acceptance Form (PAF) to your home coordinator as soon as possible.

Stay In Touch!

In addition to checking your email, there are other ways to stay in touch with us! We have designed an online handbook that should help you prepare and adjust to attending SSU and living in Sonoma County! Be sure to check it out at https://ssunewstudents.wordpress.com/

Once you are accepted into the NSE program, we will invite you to join the special Facebook group! Additionally, you can like our Facebook pages to see updates and information! IEEC is the International Education Exchange Council, a student organization on campus. They often plan fun trips and events for NSE students!

Mandatory Orientation

There will be a mandatory orientation the week before classes begin. You will be expected to be present at the orientation, so please make your travel plans accordingly. We will contact you with dates and additional information once you are accepted.

Housing

On-campus housing is available and encouraged for NSE students, though in order to secure a spot, quick work is required. Attached to our email to you is a letter from SSU Housing with additional information. After you are accepted, the earlier that you submit your housing application and housing down payment ($400), the more likely you will be able to secure a place in the SSU Residential Halls. Move in day for on-campus housing is will be the week of the mandatory orientation. Please visit the following website for further information: http://www.sonoma.edu/housing/villages/

If you are considering living off-campus, we often try to connect inbound and returned students who are interested in housing together. Let us know if you are interested in us helping you connect with others. There is also a Facebook page for SSU students living off campus: https://www.facebook.com/groups/ssuhousing
Additionally, you can always search the usual websites, such as Craigslist and Padmapper.

Financial Aid

If you are on Plan A, and you receive Financial Aid, you will need to add Sonoma State University to your FAFSA application. The SSU FAFSA code is 001156. Any necessary paperwork will be communicated to you through your SSU email and online account, which will be established once we receive your PAF. If you are on Plan B, you home university will still provide your financial aid and you should be in touch with them accordingly.
