PE6 Weight Room Floor Replacement Documents

Dear campus community,

On July 27, 2016 the Facilities Department began a construction project to replace the flooring in the PE 6 Weight Room funded by Athletics. During the course of removing the floor we learned the original padding under the floor was a pour-on material that potentially contained mercury, which required testing. Testing confirmed the existence of mercury in the padding. Due to the unique properties of mercury, removal is not a simple process. We are working with Forensic Analytical Consulting, Inc. to conduct additional testing and determine the scope of mercury presence. These tests will inform the appropriate process for abatement.

No mercury was detected on any weight equipment and that equipment is temporarily being housed in the South Field House. Documents are as follows:

2015 Asbestos testing chain of custody and report

August 2016 mercury bulk sample chain of custody and report

September 16, 2016 Forensic Analytical Consulting Assessment

March 21, 2017 Forensic Analytical Consulting Assessment

Updates will be made available as they occur.  The weight room is anticipated to be back on line no later than the start of the spring 2017 term.
