SEIE Admissions - Undergraduate

Admission Requirements

Admission to SEIE undergraduate (Bachelor's degree) programs is based on fulfilling standard CSU transfer requirements. Entrance requirements can be in progress or planned when you apply, but they must be completed by the end of the Fall or Spring semester preceding enrollment. (Summer and Winter Intersession not included.)

  • 60 semester units of transferable college-level work with a C average.
  • 30 of these units must be in general education according to the CSU pattern at a C average, and must include the following:
    • A1 (Written & Oral Analysis/Speech): grade of C- or greater
    • A2 (English Composition): grade of C- or greater
    • A3 (Critical Thinking): grade of C- or greater
    • B4 (Math/Quantitative Reasoning): grade of C- or greater
    • Lab (Liberal Studies @ Napa and @ Solano only); choose either a Physical or a Biological Science
  • Any general education requirements not finished before entrance must be completed in order to graduate.
  • The ASSIST website can help you choose qualifying classes at community colleges, but you should also work with a counselor.

Students must be in good standing at the last institution attended. If you have been disqualified or are on probation, you may need to take extra steps for admission.

Pre-Admission Evaluation

Prospective students are strongly encouraged to seek a pre-admission assessment from our dedicated advisor, Susie McFeeters, before submitting an application. You can mail, e-mail, or fax copies of your transcripts to her, and she will evaluate your situation and tell you what you need to do, if anything, in order to fulfill the entrance requirements. She can be reached at 707-664-2601, susan.mcfeeters@sonoma.edu, fax 707-664-2613. Due to the volume of requests, please allow at least a week for Susie to complete your assessment.

  1. Attend an Information Session to get complete information about the program.
  2. Check our Important Information page to be sure you are on target.
  3. Review Cal State Apply's Transfer Student Checklist.
  4. Gather information about your previous academic experiences (transcripts, test scores, etc.).

Managing your Cal State Apply Application

The online application process at Cal State Apply is relatively straightforward, but here are a few things to keep in mind for a smoother experience.

  • Even if your 60 units are still in progress, you must select "60 units or more" when asked about units completed. Otherwise, you will not be able to select the correct program.
  • Choose Sonoma Extension to see the list of our programs from which to choose.
  • Be sure to select the correct program; Cal State Apply may state the title differently. See the screen shot to see what the selection screen looks like. Program titles are also available on our Important Information page, or contact the SEIE Admissions Specialist.
  • You may be asked for an "Alternate Program." You can just check the box to say you are not interested.
  • You can track your progress on your dashboard, which will show what still needs to be completed before submission.

Help Is Available!

This is a very new process for all of us, so we appreciate your patience. If you get into difficulties, help is available:

  • Live Chat on the Cal State Apply site (not 24/7)
  • The Cal State Apply Applicant Help Center offers online help.
  • James Peavler, our Admissions Specialist, can be reached at 707-664-2682, james.peavler@sonoma.edu. He will be able to see your application even before you submit it, so he may be able to help you if you have stalled out.
