The Sonoma State American Language Institute (SSALI) offers international students the opportunity to improve their English quickly in a supportive, family-like environment on the Sonoma State University campus located in beautiful Northern California.

SSALI provides the highest quality English learning environment in Northern California! The School of Extended and International Education (SEIE) is honored to host students seeking to obtain an academic degree at Sonoma State University and from our special international university partners!

The SSALI program has been hosting and helping international students improve their English for over 40 years! Check out our two English language programs designed to improve English comprehension while becoming an active participant of the Sonoma State University student body.



SSALI Programs:


University Preparation Program (UPP) - for students planning to pass English language requirements and be admitted to an SSU academic program or Santa Rosa Junior College.

Academic Culture and English (ACE) - Semester-long program designed for students coming from our international university partners. Student focus is improving English and learning American culture and service learning opportunities.

Study abroad at SSU for a semester, summer session or an academic year. The SAS program provides the opportunity for international students to study at SSU under the F-1 visa program and take available undergraduate or graduate classes. Students will take courses with Sonoma State students and receive a transcript they can use to apply to their degree program at their home university

Experience a fun interactive way to improve your English with speaking directly with Sonoma State students over a live, iteractive video presentation. Students participate in a four-session program, learning about Northern California and studying in the USA.
