Financial Aid

Utilize 2016-17 Financial Aid for Summer 2017 If you think you may not have used up your full Direct Loan or Pell Grant eligibility in the Fall 2016 and Spring 2017 semesters, email the Financial Aid Information Specialists at finaid@sonoma.edu or stop by the Financial Aid Counter in Salazar 1000 to find out if you have financial aid available to help pay your Summer registration charges.

DIRECT LOAN If you have unused Direct Loan eligibility, you must be registered for summer classes and have submitted the Summer 2017 Direct Loan Request Form no later than 14 days prior to the payment due date for your summer session. The Direct Loan Request form will be available when Summer registration begins. Please note: To receive a Direct Loan disbursement during Summer term, you must be enrolled at least half-time. All sessions of enrollment are counted toward the half-time requirement, which is 6 units for all students except 4 units for master's candidates.

PELL GRANT Students who attended full-time both Fall 2016 and Spring 2017 semesters (12 or more units each semester) do not have unused Pell Grant eligibility for Summer. If you were not full-time both Fall and Spring and are determined to have unused Pell Grant eligibility for Summer, you must be registered for summer classes no later than 14 days prior to the payment due date for your summer session. (No request form is required for summer Pell Grant determination.)

NOTIFICATION OF ELIGIBILITY FOR SUMMER FINANCIAL AID. Financial Aid will send a response to your SSU email account at least 7 days prior to your payment due date to inform you of your financial aid options. If you are not eligible for enough financial aid to pay your full summer course fees, you must pay the difference by the published due dates.

Announcing The GPS Scholarships!

SEIE will be awarding a limited number of need-based scholarships for Summer Session! In order to be considered for a GPS Scholarship, you must:

  1. Be a matriculated, undergraduate SSU student in good academic standing
  2. Be enrolled in 3 or more units during Summer Session
  3. Have filed a FAFSA or a Dream Act Application with SSU for the 16-17 academic year

The GPS Scholarship Application will be available online beginning March 10, 2017, and must be submitted online no later than 11:59 pm on April 14, 2017. Late applications will not be accepted. Award notifications will go out by April 24, 2017.

If you do not meet the criteria to be considered for a GPS Scholarship because you have not filed a FAFSA or completed a CA Dream Act application, and you believe you have an extenuating circumstance (such as international status or you qualify for a Veteran’s Fee Waiver), you may apply for an exception.

If you are applying for an exception, please complete the GPS Scholarship Exception Application. You will also need to provide a hard copy brief written statement explaining your circumstance, which must be received in the SEIE Office (Stevenson Hall 1012) by 5pm on Friday, April 15.
