Application Process

Application Process

At this time, the Sonoma State Transition to Practice Program is on hiatus for Summer 2019.
We will not be taking applications for this cycle.

The School of Extended and International Education will submit your application and resume to the hospital(s) selected. The hospital will call you to schedule an interview. Acceptance into the program is determined by several factors:

  1. Successful completion of an RN program within the last 18 months, with evidence of either a CA Registered Nurses license or Interim Permit by June 11, 2018
  2. Be able to work a flexible 36-hour/week schedule
  3. Priority will be given to students who reside in local counties, attended at least one rotation at the selected facility of choice, and graduated from either Sonoma State, Dominican University, Pacific Union College or the following community colleges: Santa Rosa, Marin, Mendocino, Napa or Solano
  4. Be sure to include your clinical area of experience and the desired clinical locations you wish to have your preceptor experience

Participants will share the patient care assignment of an RN preceptor, based on the RN's schedule. Assignments on all shifts are available and will be based on opportunities that are available.

No fees are required until selection is complete.

Upon completion of the course students will be provided a certificate of completion as well as a BRN certificate for the 28 continuing education units towards your next license renewal. SSU BRN provider number is CEP16694.

Once registered and your confirmation letter arrives in the mail, you will set up your Sonoma State "Seawolf" account to access the learning management system "Moodle". First you will need to create a password at Once you have created a password you can then log into your "Seawolf" account and begin your journey in Moodle. You can find more information about Moodle at
