Welcome to the Geography, Environment, and Planning Homepage

In Fall 2017 we merged our Departments of Environmental Studies and Planning and the department of Geography and Global Studies to become a single entity: the Department of Geography, Environment, and Planning. By bringing the assets of our two departments together we are producing synergies which benefit students by providing greater resilience as they pursue their chosen field of study, and towards graduation and career. In many ways this merge is part of an organic process that has been on-going for many years. Increasingly students from both majors have been taking courses taught in the companion department, to the point that many students have declared minors in Geography or ENSP.

Pending approval by the CSU Chancellor’s office, beginning in Fall semester 2018 we aim to begin our new degree which will be titled Geography and Environment. Following approval of the new degree plan, students who declare GEP as their major will follow new study plans in five concentrations: Society, Environment, and Development (BA); Environmental Systems (BA); Geospatial Analysis and Technology (BA); Sustainable Communities (BA); and Planning for Sustainable Communities (BA).  Student also have the option to major in the existing Energy Management and Design (BS) degree.
