Background and Interests:

Jackie Guilford got her undergraduate degree at SUNY Geneseo in upstate New York and completed her PhD in Molecular Mechanisms of Toxicity at the Penn State Hershey Medical Center.  Before finally ending up in Santa Rosa, she was a Peace Corps volunteer in The Gambia in western Africa and a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Hawaii at Hilo College of Pharmacy.  In addition to teaching in the Biology and ENSP departments at SSU, she is a mother of two daughters and a Scientist Specialist at the elementary school that they attend.

Jackie's research is funded by the WATERS Consortium at SSU.  She leads groups of interns each semester to collect data in the field to answer questions of interest to the Sonoma County Water Agency and the City of Santa Rosa.  Past projects have included water quality measurements along Copeland Creek and an investigation of the amount of nitrogen and phosphorus bound to sediment that flows into the Laguna de Santa Rosa.
