RE:         Cal Employee Connect – Pilot Phase

As a California State University (CSU) employee, your pay check/direct deposit advice and annual W-2 are issued (hard copy) by the State Controller’s Office (SCO).  These hard copy documents have been the only means made available to you by the SCO as a record of your earnings, until now.

A few weeks ago we let employees know of an opportunity to be a part of the pilot phase of Cal Employee Connect.  Your participation as a California State University (CSU) employee is vital to our statewide effort.  Our goal is to make this tool as useful to all CSU employees as possible.  Your feedback will help drive enhancements to the portal.

The State Controller’s Office (SCO) has produced a tool that will allow employees to view their earnings statements and W-2’s, along with personal information.  The SCO plans on implementing more functionality based on your input.  Cal Employee Connect will ultimately reduce state costs and workload by providing a tool for all state employees to access their information electronically.

Join the CEC Pilot

  1. Have a recent paper pay stub in hand
    • It has information you will need that is not available from Payroll
    • You must be a state-side employee
  2. Be on campus, using the campus network
  3. Go to Cal Employee Connect
  4. Select Register
  5. Follow the prompts to register using your campus email account
  6. Once registered, you will be able to login to
    • View and print your earnings statements/paychecks: current tax year and 2 tax years prior
    • View and print W-2 information: 3 years are available

We encourage all employees to participate. To get started, you will need to have a recent pay stub in hand, issued within the last six months by your current campus.  The pay stub contains the information needed for registration in the portal.  Start by clicking: Cal Employee Connect (CEC). During the pilot, the CEC portal is only available from within our SSU network (on-campus computers).  For verification, CEC may ask for the total deductions shown on your pay stub.  If you are using the view paycheck functionality within my|HR Self Service (PeopleSoft), add “Total Taxes” and “Total Deductions” together to get the deduction total needed for the verification.

Feedback

If you encounter an issue with your data or identify a problem with the functioning of the application please contact connecthelp@sco.ca.gov.  If you wish to provide feedback about what you like or think can be improved, please write to connectfeedback@sco.ca.gov.  You will find links to this feedback address under the Help & Feedback tab within CEC portal.  This is also where you can suggest future enhancements to the tool.

Be Part of the Pilot

Please help support our campus commitment to sustainability by requesting the ability to opt out of the receipt of paper warrants for those on direct deposit.  We are hopeful that if enough requests are received, the SCO will put this at the top of their list for future enhancements.

Please note that this new portal is owned and maintained by the SCO and is not part of CSU’s PeopleSoft Self Service. We are excited to participate in the pilot program, and we hope you’ll enjoy being one of the first campuses to enjoy this new functionality.

Please contact the Payroll and Benefits Office if you have any questions at 4-2793.
