Web Server Registration

If you are responsible for a web server on a stand-alone computer that needs to be accessible from off campus, contact the IT Help Desk and ask them to register your web-server. This allows visitors to get through the network security that prevents hacking into servers. In recent months, Internet hackers have created security problems that have made it necessary to build a firewall between the Internet and non-registered servers.

Most units on campus have their web pages on one of the University web servers housed in IT, which is already registered and so has no security problems. If you want to set up your site on the University web server, contact the Help Desk.
