WiFi at SSU

Screenshot of wireless login web pageSSU provides wireless access for all current students, staff and faculty of Sonoma State University. SSU students and employees can connect to Sonoma State's wireless network using their Seawolf ID and password.

Below is a list of known unsupported wireless devices at SSU. As technology changes so will this list.

Accessing Wireless Networks at SSU

SSU-SECURE

This is the preferred network for both the main campus and Residence Halls. This network provides a safe and secure connection for devices that support WPA2-Enterprise. This network is available for current SSU students, staff and faculty. Once SSU-SECURE is setup successfully, users can reconnect to the wireless network seamlessly without loading a captive portal page or entering their Seawolf ID and password.

SSUWLAN

This unencrypted network is available on the main campus for guests and devices that are unable to connect to SSU-SECURE. Users can connect by entering their Seawolf ID and password after loading a portal page with their web browser. Guest wireless accounts will connect to this network only.

ResHall-WLAN

This unencrypted network is available in the Residence Halls for guests and devices that are unable to connect to SSU-SECURE. Users can connect by entering their Seawolf ID and password after loading a portal page with their web browser. Residence Hall Guest wireless accounts will connect to this network only.

SSU-BLUE

This network is available in the residence halls for current students and exists for IT approved devices that cannot connect to SSU-SECURE and ResHall-WLAN. (E.g, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, Nook, etc.) Access is granted to SSU-Blue for one academic year, and will need to be renewed after the end of spring semester.

Once your request for access has been approved, simply configure your device to connect to ssu-blue. You will not need to enter a username or password.

Eduroam

Eduroam (education roaming) is a secure, worldwide campus WiFi service developed for the international research and education community. For more information visit www.eduroam.org

This network provides visiting faculty, staff and students from participating institutions the ability to easily gain secure network access utilizing their home institution credentials. It also provides SSU faculty, staff and students who will be visiting a participating institution the ability to connect to eduroam, providing secure, automatic access while away.

Guest Access

Guests of the university may receive a guest wireless account by being sponsored by an SSU student or employee. Sponsors must contact the Help Desk with the guest's name, phone number, and email address. Guest wireless accounts are valid for 24 hours unless otherwise authorized. Guest wireless accounts will connect to SSUWLAN only.

Tech High Students

Students attending Tech High on the Sonoma State campus may obtain a guest wireless account. Tech High students must bring their current school ID to the Help Desk to obtain an account. Tech High wireless accounts are valid for one month. Tech High wireless accounts will connect to SSUWLAN only.
