Voice Faculty Teams Up For “Bel Canto” in Schroeder Hall

Sonoma State University’s voice faculty will present their first joint recital, “Bel Canto” (beautiful singing), featuring sopranos Jane Erwin Hammett and Rhoslyn Jones and baritone Zachary Gordin singing arias from opera and operetta, German lieder and musicals on Oct. 28 at 7:30 p.m. in Schroeder Hall. Admission is $8 and free to SSU students.

Jane Erwin Hammett has performed across the United States and in San Francisco in two national companies of The Phantom of the Opera and has earned two Bay Area Theatre Critics’ Circle Awards and a Drama-Logue Award for appearances with San Francisco’s Lamplighters, as well as sung many leading roles with Bay Area opera companies.

Hailed as a "delicious diva" and lauded for her "unforgettably powerful voice," Canadian  lyric soprano Rhoslyn Jones has performed with the San Francisco Opera, Opera Santa Barbara, Vancouver Opera, Pacific Opera Victoria, New York City Ballet, Arizona Opera, Colorado Symphony Orchestra, Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra and Anchorage Symphony Orchestra, among others.

Zachary Gordin is renowned as a dynamic and engaging artist, bringing masterful singing and strong physicality to a wide variety of roles – from baroque heroes to contemporary works written specifically for him. As a soloist on the concert stage, he has performed Monteverdi’s Magnificat with Michael Tilson Thomas and the San Francisco Symphony, Mahler’s Kindertotenlieder with the Bay Area Rainbow Symphony, Mozart’s Coronation Mass and Bach’s Cantata #82 “Ich habe genug” with the Sacramento Philharmonic Orchestra, Brahms’ Requiem, Fauré’s Requiem, and Vaughan Williams’ Dona Nobis Pacem with the Oakland Symphony Chorus.

Schroeder Hall at Sonoma State University’s Green Music Center is located 2 miles east of Highway 101 on Rohnert Park Expressway.
