Jeff Denson and Secret World Quartet Play Jazz Forum and Concert

The Sonoma State University Jazz Forum kicks off the fall semester on Wednesday, Sept. 5 with a very special, double appearance by bassist and composer Jeff Denson and his quartet. Denson, a member of the Lee Konitz New Quartet, will bring the band for his acclaimed “Secret World” CD to the 1 p.m. Jazz Forum in GMC 1029, followed by an evening concert at 7:30 p.m. in GMC 1028. There is a suggested donation of $15 for the evening concert. Proceeds will benefit the Mel Graves Memorial Fund.

“As a composer, my goal is to create a personal musical language that best communicates my ideas and emotions as an artist and human being.” Jeff Denson, bassist and composer

Jeff Denson is a world renowned double bassist and composer who has performed in many of the world’s top jazz festivals including the Berlin Jazz Festival, the JVC Jazz Festival Paris and the Montreal Jazz Festival.

Denson says, “As the bandleader of this quartet, "Secret World," I composed and arranged all of the music for this album and sought out musicians whom I thought would be best suited for the music I heard in my head. The band features trumpeter/composer Ralph Alessi, pianist Florian Weber, and drummer Gerald Cleaver.
