Orchestra Auditions Open to Community

A rare opportunity to perform in Weill Hall is being offered to community musicians in the North Bay. Auditions for the university’s newly formed Symphony Orchestra will take place August 23-25 at the Green Music Center in room 1028. Complete details regarding the audition process can be found HERE

Rehearsals will take place on Tuesdays, beginning on September 1, from 7-9:40 pm. Thursday evening rehearsals and/or sectionals will also be scheduled on an occasional basis. To schedule an audition or for more information, contact Alexander Kahn.

Under the direction of Dr. Alexander Kahn, the Symphony Orchestra will perform a diverse array of orchestral literature, ranging from the Baroque period to world premieres and from classical repertoire to film, opera, and educational works. In addition to performing 2-4 concerts each year in the beautiful confines of Weill Hall, the Symphony Orchestra will become a touring ensemble.

Kahn will conduct the orchestra’s inaugural concert on December 11 at 7:30 pm in Weill Hall. The program includes John Corigliano’s mesmerizing Invitation to the Voyage for string orchestra; Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 14 with soloist Marilyn Thompson; and Beethoven’s spritely and spirited Symphony No. 1.
