Teaching for Sustainable Communities: Summer Institute for Educators of Grades 6-12 from Any Discipline
July 24-28 @ Environmental Technology Center, Sonoma State University
Design Thinking ~ Action Projects ~ Global Competence ~ Eco-literacy ~ Project Based Learning
Our FREE 5-day summer institute offers space for learning, planning and collaboration with CISP teacher leaders, University faculty and sustainability professionals, community organizations, and student representatives. Participants can opt to engage in 1-2 day fieldwork training in the beginning of the year, and end the year with a 1-day student showcase of their action project(s). Participants may also opt into other support including ongoing implementation support, mentoring with experts, and support on documentation of teaching and learning. *Participants receive a $500 stipend as an honorarium.

World Savvy Classrooms

NBSIP Supports teams of k-12 educators in Region 1 of California (Sonoma and all counties north of Sonoma County) through the World Savvy Classrooms program. The World Savvy Classrooms program integrates the highest level of global competence learning into classrooms by combining professional development and consulting for educators with project-based learning for K-12 students. The Classrooms program is aligned with and supports Common Core state standards, ensuring students learn the required ‘core’ content mandated by state and national standards, in a way that establishes real-world connections to the material.

Global Voices: Digital Storytelling with Global Oneness Project

Join us for this 3-day workshop series at Sonoma State University. Working with the Global Oneness Project, teachers will share instructional activities and projects focused on global competence, storytelling, and photo essays. Earn CEUs while revisiting core elements of story and culture; Use project based learning principles to design a photo-based digital time capsule storytelling project with your students. Select projects will have the opportunity to publish work.

Teacher-led Professional Learning Community Seed Grants

Teachers who want to organize site based learning for themselves and their colleagues can apply for support from the NBISP office. NBISP supports initiatives that fall under developing the following core global competencies in students: Investigate the World, Recognize Perspectives, Communicate Ideas, Take Action.
