Subject: New Alternative Transportation Car Sharing Program - Zipcar

Zipcar logo and link

UPDATE: In response to several inquiries concerning the new Zipcar program that launched at SSU this week (see general email sent on 1/27), please note that Zipcar is NOT approved for official SSU business, and any attempt to claim business reimbursement for using Zipcar will be denied (either as business reimbursement or travel reimbursement). This is in part due to insurance requirements. Please continue to use standing procedures for university related travel and rental car needs.

Zipcar is finally here! Beginning this week, Sonoma State students (over 18 years of age), faculty and staff can use a new car sharing service called Zipcar! Zipcar is widely used throughout the San Francisco Bay Area and is now available at Sonoma State University (SSU). The designated pick up and drop areas for the Zipcars will be located in the two spaces at the northwest corner of D lot across from the Police Building.

Zipcar is car-sharing, an alternative to car ownership that gives members 24/7 access to vehicles parked right on campus. Their low hourly and daily rates include gas, insurance, and 180 miles per day to get you to wherever you want to go. Members can reserve cars online or with a smart phone for as little as an hour or up to seven days. This semester, enjoy all the freedom of owning car without any of the hassle.

Stop by the information table in Seawolf Plaza on January 27 between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. to find out more about Zipcar at SSU. You can also learn more about Zipcar, including our reduced membership fees and rates, or by visiting their website or find us on Facebook.

Special thanks to Contracts and Procurement and to the Transportation Committee for their help and counsel with this program. For a list of committee members, please visit our webpage.
