Internship Description

The CalPREP AmeriCorps Program provides college and career readiness mentoring to high-need students across the state. Our vision is to see students achieve college and career success in order to tackle the low college-going rates in economically disadvantaged California communities. CalPREP Mentors will work one-on-one with students in grades 5-12, using a curriculum focused on three content areas: Habits of Mind; Mindset; and College Knowledge. CalPREP mentors will intern at one of five different sites in Santa Rosa including: Bellevue Elementary/Stony Point Academy, Meadow View Elementary, Taylor Mountain Elementary, Wright Charter, and CAP/Youth Connections. We also have one location in Windsor: Cali Calm├ęcac Language Academy.

Job Title: CalPREP Mentor

Compensation: Unpaid, but will provide training in college and career readiness curriculum, student behavior/management, and cultural competency. Letter of recommendation and networking in school district and the field of education
Internship Length: 1 year
Hours Per Week: 2-3

Setting: School

Duties: Mentor 1-3 students (depending on your schedule and availability) one-on-one at one of eight school sites in Santa Rosa.
Attend orientations and trainings throughout the year (around 1-2 hours a month).
Maintain appropriate conduct with students, other volunteers, and staff at the school.
Demonstrate a genuine interest in the needs and personalities of mentees. Maintain a consistent schedule and attitude in order to build a relationship of trust and respect.

Qualifications:Some experience with youth preferred but not necessary.

18 years of age or older.
