Position Summary: This volunteer role is a great entry way for those interest in learning about community resources, non-profits and the hustle and bustle of one of the largest family shelters, from the Golden Gate Bridge to the Oregon border. The Family Support Center Front Desk Volunteer is an essential component in the day-to-day operation of the Family Support Center. This opportunity comes with a multitude of tasks as you aide the Site Coordinator in maintaining accessibility of our services, organization of our front desk resources, as well as, a welcoming environment within FSC's main lobby.


  • Greeting those who enter the lobby
  • Up keeping community resource binder
  • Accepting In-Kind Donations & generating receipts
  • Answering phone calls and transferring to appropriate extension or making appropriate extension or making appropriate community referrals
  • Reliably attending scheduled shifts
  • Maintaining professional appearance and mannerisms
  • Reminding visitors/volunteers to sign-in/out
  • Retaining strong communication with site coordinator
  • Adhering to Catholic Charities Confidentiality agreement at all times

Training: Each volunteer will need to receive and provide proof of clearing a background check. Volunteers will have an opportunity to shadow one another, as well as, be trained individually with Shelter & Housing's Administrative Coordinator. Trainings will be held for volunteers on a monthly basis.

Benefits: This role allows the individual to build their knowledge on community resources, Catholic Charities' programs, and how daily operations of a family shelter function. These individuals are able to greet incoming community partners, participants and community members. This is an opportunity, to network, learn and provide assistance to some of those, who need it most.
