Question of the Week"Who can submit a story to NewsBytes and how does that process work?"

All faculty and staff are encouraged to contact NewsBytes with story ideas, announcements and personal achievements. Stories must be campus relevant, no longer than 250 words and should not be written in the first person. Pictures are greatly appreciated. Submit stories by Friday at noon for inclusion in the following week's NewsBytes. Questions, comments and submissions may be directed to NewsBytes at or by calling 4-3086.

Town Hall Meeting: WASC Accreditation

SSU is holding a series of town hall meetings on various topics throughout the 2008-09 academic year. The next town hall meeting is on WASC Accreditation and is in Schulz 3001 on April 30, from noon to 1 p.m. All faculty, staff and students are invited.

The final town hall meeting of the semester is a wrap-up of what we know about the budget, and takes place May 21. For more information, visit the Town Hall website.


GolfSSU Captures 2009 CCAA Men's Golf Championship

Sonoma State shot a final-round 1-over 289 on Tues., April 21 and went on to capture its second straight California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) men’s golf title. Sonoma State is the first back-to-back CCAA Champion since Cal State Bakersfield won five straight titles from 2002 to 2007. The Seawolves are also the third multiple winner since the championship was first held in 1999.

Celebrating the Life of Ken Stocking, April 25

Ken StockingA campus celebration in memory of Kenneth Stocking, professor emeritus of environmental studies, takes place Sat., April 25 from 3 p.m.-5 p.m. at the Environmental Technology Center. Stocking, who passed away last November at the age of 97, began his career at Sonoma State in 1964. During his 15 years with the university, Stocking was professor and chair of the Biology Department, founded the Department of Environmental Studies and Planning, and started the botanical garden near the lakes which still bears his name.

The April 25 ceremony includes "light refreshments, a walk through campus to see some of Ken's legacy, other stories about Ken, reacquainting with fellow ENSP alumni, and a toast to the life of Dr. Ken Stocking." To RSVP, email
