Facilities ArtworkArtwork Depicts Department's Pledge: "Many Hands, Many Minds, One Goal"

(Continued from homepage)

Facilities Management is a department of “People for People”. This is the inspiration for the piece; excellent staff and the many Facilities Management services that are provided to the campus community in support of the Mission, Vision and Core Values of the University. The art piece depicts in an abstract way the department’s pledge to excellence: “Facilities Management - Many Hands, Many Minds, One Goal”. This pledge encompasses all areas within the department; Administrative, Trades, Landscaping, Environmental Health and Safety, and Capital Planning, Design and Construction.

This pledge of excellence is reflected throughout the creative expressionist piece which is composed of a variety of mediums including: construction drawings, actual tools, construction material samples, miniature replicas of heavy equipment, energy and Fire-Life Safety components, to capture the spirit of the department and that of the University.

The name of the piece is abstractly illustrated through the use of colored paint splatters that represent: purple – “Tradition”, yellow - “Service”, white – “Excellence” and, green - “Success”. All areas of the art piece depicting the various areas within the department are touched by the paint splatters and serve to bind the department and to reinforce the department’s pledge to the campus community.

Sonoma State RNs Providing Global Health Care

Four Registered Nurses, who are currently completing their BSN and MSN degrees at SSU, volunteered as nurses in ambulatory medical clinics in three impoverished areas in the world.

Carole Heath, professor of nursing, reports that all four RNs volunteered for Medical Wings International, an organization sponsored by American Airlines that brings American nurses, doctors, dentists and optometrists to developing countries in remote areas around the globe. The volunteers, provide medical and nursing care to those who have no means to receive such help locally.

The areas to which the nurses traveled included San Pedro Sula, Honduras; Delphi, India; and Ataco, El Salvador. After returning from the mission, each of the nurse humanitarians remarked of how they were personally and professionally changed by participating in such a worthwhile venture.
