The future Wine Spectator Learning Center (WSLC) is an education and industry hub designed around advanced-technology classrooms, a student commons and gardens, and a collaborative space for faculty and business leaders.

Construction of the 15,000-square-foot project began on June 1, 2016 with an official groundbreaking ceremony attended by over 300 people, including California Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom, U.S. Congressman Mike Thompson, Wine Spectator editor and publisher, Marvin Shanken, and other luminaries in government, education, and industry. The facility is expected to open in 2018 and will be available to all students and departments.

The Wine Spectator Learning Center at Sonoma State University will be a state-of-the-art facility with classrooms and outdoor space to teach 300+, venues for public seminars and events, and technology to reach the world.

The design will utilize modern learning and working practices to inspire collaboration for students and visitors. The Student Commons will encompass a student hub, a wine entrepreneurship laboratory, an outdoor study terrace and a wine business research library.

Hands-on experience and global access will be central to the new building, like in the Business of Hospitality classroom, which will provide space for learning the art and science of marketing and selling wine, Direct-to-Consumer and B2B through multi-media and hands-on teaching.
