Areas of Expertise:

Social Theory, News Media, Environmental Sociology, Qualitative Research Methods

Academic Interests:

All of my teaching and research deals with the uses of power and the consequences of its unequal distribution.  I believe that sociology provides useful tools not only for understanding the human condition but also, ultimately, for improving it.   As associate director of Project Censored, much of my current work focuses on the importance of a free press for democratic self-government and the ways that corporate news media narrow the scope of legitimate public discourse.
