The Graduate Record Examination (GRE)
SSU only offers the Subject Test, paper version exams. The GRE General Test is not offered at SSU. The GRE is a commercially-run standardized test that is an admission requirement for many graduate schools in the United States. Created and administered by Educational Testing Service (or ETS). The exam measures verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, critical thinking, and analytical writing skills that have been acquired over a long period of time and that are not related to any specific field of study. The GRE General Test is offered as a computer-based exam administered is offered in select testing centers. Standard admissions test for most graduate programs.

GRE Subject Tests: Some graduate programs require both the General Test and a Subject Test. It is the student's responsibility to check with the graduate program they are interested in to determine if they need both tests. The GRE Subject Tests are pencil and paper tests, and are offered at Sonoma State University.
