Textbook: M. Morris Mano and Michael D. Ciletti, Digital Design, 4th ed., Prentice Hall, ISBN 0-13-198924-3.

Prerequisite: ES 110 and MATH 142E Discrete Math or by instructor's consent

Course Description:

Review of set theory and binary system, digital logic, Venn diagram, logic gates, minimization techniques, combinatorial logic and design of simple combinatorial logic circuits such as 1-bit adder; concept of coders, decoders and integrated circuits.

Learning Outcome:

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Apply knowledge of math, science and engineering.
  • Design digital circuitry, analyze and interpret data.
  • Design a system, component, process to meet desired needs within realistic constraints.

Course Learning Objectives:

The objectives of this course are to:

  1. Introduce the basic concept of digital and binary systems
  2. Give students the concept of digital logic design
  3. Give students the basic tools for the design and implementation of digital modules and subsystems
  4. Reinforce theory and techniques taught in the classroom through project assignments.
