Welcome Back Hope Emry Ortiz

Hope Emry Ortiz is the new International & Exchange Programs advisor working with outbound student programs.

Hope Emry Ortiz was born and raised in Humboldt County, CA. She attended Sonoma State University to pursue a bachelor's degree in Psychology. While attending SSU, she studied abroad in Queretaro, Mexico http://calstate.edu/ip/programs/mexico/index.shtml for one year, completing a minor in Spanish. She also participated in many co-curricular activities such as SSU International Education Exchange Council , Queer-Straight Alliance of Sonoma State, the Sonoma EOP Club Educational Opportunity Program, McNair Scholars and NoGAP, and the Vagina Monologues. These experiences along with the many other student leadership positions that she held at Sonoma, including Summer Bridge Peer Leader, Orientation Peer Leader, and Freshman Seminar Peer Mentor, lead her to pursue a career in student affairs.

After graduating from SSU, graduated from San Diego State University with a Masters of Arts in Postsecondary Educational Leadership with a Specialization in Student Affairs. It was there that her interests in social justice, multicultural competency, assisting Veteran students, and increasing retention in underrepresented students thrived. While completing the program, she had the opportunity to hold graduate assistant positions at UC San Diego in Sixth College Student Affairs as well as at San Diego State University in both the International Student Center and Student Life & Leadership.

She has now returned to SSU and is excited to share her passion of education abroad with SSU Seawolves as the new International & Exchange Programs Advisor. If you would like to "friend" Hope's new professional Facebook account, go to, www.facebook.com/hope.emryortiz.
