  • The CSU Student Research Competition is held annually to showcase the outstanding scholarly and creative research accomplishments of both undergraduate and graduate students across all disciplines and includes scholars from all 23 California State University campuses. Sonoma State University (SSU) is holding an internal competition in order to identify 10 projects that will represent our campus at this year’s system-wide competition at CSU Fullerton on April 26th & 27th, 2019. Please note that the Office of Research & Sponsored Programs will pay approved travel costs for students chosen to represent SSU at this event.

    Sonoma Community Center is now accepting applications now for the 9th annual 2019 Trashion Fashion Runway show.   Seeking artists to create an outfit out of recycled materials to walk and be entered in our Runway show April 6.  The Runway show kicks off a series of community events that encompasses our Earth Month waste management awareness week.   • Opportunity for students and faculty to have their artwork displayed at our district office at the Rattigan State Building in Santa Rosa. Assembly member Levine is always looking to promote the work of diligent students in our community. Additionally, they have their holiday office hours coming up in December, which would be an opportunity to further highlight student and faculty artwork. Please let Christine know if you would like to participate by the end of the week, Friday, November 2nd. Additionally, the California Arts Council has opened applications for their 2019 grants programs.   • A student show at Honey Badger Cafe in Rohnert Park. Since this is a cafe, we're looking for smaller pieces, no larger than 18"x24". This would be done through the Art Club and if people are interested they can contact me at I'm hoping to collect submissions between Monday October 22 through Friday November 2.
    The Santa Rosa Recreation & Parks Department is seeking Sonoma and Marin County artists to participate in rotating art exhibitions at City Hall Council Chambers, Finley Community Center, Person Senior Wing, and Steele Lane Community Center. Applications are sought for exhibitions during the summer and fall of 2019. A variety of mediums are accepted, including painting, works on paper, sculpture, textiles, ceramics and more.
    Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis, with immediate openings beginning in the summer of 2019.   • California Sociological Association Logo Contest
    The California Sociological Association (CSA) is hosting our annual conference logo creation contest for students.  The theme of the 2018 conference is Inequality and Social Justice in the Contemporary Era. Logos should reflect the theme and must be the original work of the person submitting it. The winner will be given credit in the program and will be awarded $100.  Why: We would like to use your logo for the cover of our conference program, on our t-shirts, and our tote bags. Who: Any community college, bachelors, master’s, MFA, or doctoral student may submit an original logo. Being a sociologist, member of the CSA or attending the conference is not mandatory for participation. Graphic design and art students are encouraged to submit.   • Millennial Mind: Topics for the 21st Century
    The Museum Theory and Practice class at Sonoma State University seeks submissions for an exhibition of contemporary art focused on the issues college students today are thinking about—political, social, personal—whatever’s on your mind. The exhibition will be presented in the University’s Library Gallery. Proposed work for the exhibition can be in any media, including painting, sculpture, photography, printmaking, ceramics, drawing, and installation (some restrictions may apply), but must not exceed 48” in any dimension.  All submissions should be in the form of jpegs sent by e-mail to Prof. Michael Schwager at no later than midnight on Wednesday, April 11.   • The Brea Art Gallery

  • Merced County Arts
    The Merced County Arts Council is now accepting entries for its 12th Annual California Centered: Printmaking Exhibition. This will be held at the Merced Multicultural Arts Center, which features multiple galleries for contemporary visual arts. The purpose of this juried group show is to highlight and exhibit the best in recent California printmaking. The show is open to all print makers residing in California. Work may be in any traditional printmaking media (except photography) and must have been completed in the last three years.

  • Creative Sonoma is offering grants up to $1,000 for any SSU students, faculty or staff in any creative fields who were affected by the recent fires. The application and criteria are pretty basic so they are encouraging everyone to apply, even if they think they might not qualify on all measures.

  • Arts Education Intern
    Work closely with the Education Committee Chair and the Operations Manager to support the arts education program of Petaluma Arts Center. Projects this semester will include coordinating Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS) field trips with local schools, compiling information for the Petaluma Arts Center Education handbook, and researching classes for the 2018 Arts Camp program. This is an unpaid internship opportunity. Hours are flexible, 3-4 hours a week. This position will work remotely to coordinate field trips inquiries totaling one hour weekly on average. The intern will work on-site at the arts center for 3 hours once a week.

  • Puente Internacional Inc, located in Sonoma, currently imports and markets three different Mexican spirits, two of them being agave spirits. They feel very strongly about consumer education and would like a hands on way to show our customers how the agave, being the raw material for the spirits, is harvested and used to create the craft spirits they are tasting. They are reaching out in hopes of finding a Sonoma State Art student to create a lightweight sculpture of an agave plant.

  • The annual SCURF (The Society and Culture Undergraduate Research Forum) Journal is currently accepting abstract submissions until April 5th, 2017. This is a great opportunity for students from multiple departments to have their research published. This can be a research project from a current or previous class or individual research.

    The SCURF presentations will take place during the Science Symposium on May 3rd, 2017. There will be options for podium and/or poster presentations.

  • ZAUM, Sonoma State's very own award-winning literary magazine, is now accepting submissions! This is an opportunity to get your artwork, prose, or poetry PUBLISHED! ZAUM, currently in its 20th year of publication, is entirely student produced and edited. Any student, at either SSU or any other university, may contribute their work to ZAUM.
    The priority deadline is set for February 27th, 2017 while the final deadline is March 10th, 2017. Though these are the set deadlines, students are encouraged to send in their pieces as soon as possible! This being said, the same guidelines must be met in order to undergo this process:
    1) The author must be a university student.
    2) The piece submitted must not have been published previously elsewhere.
    3) The piece must be submitted within the set deadlines.

    Summer 2017 and Fall 2017 internship applications are open!
    Phoenix Art Museum offers 13 internships during the Summer Session and 14 internships in the Fall Session. Summer 2017 internships begin Monday, June 5, 2017 and end Friday, August 4, 2017 (9 weeks). Fall 2017 internships begin Monday, September 11, 2017 and end Friday, December 8, 2017 (12 weeks).

  • Two Artist's Needed for a One-Day Teaching Opportunity!
    Fine Arts Day at Binkley School Wednesday, March 15, 8:30-noon. Artists would be teaching two classes for the same grade. Grade range could be anywhere from K to 3rd. Binkley Elementary has prepared art docent lesson from which guest artist can choose, or if preferred, they can create their own lesson. We would like all the children to have ‘hands-on’ creative opportunity. We are happy to purchase necessary supplies.     As a part of its allocation of Instructionally Related Activity Fees, the Fee Advisory Committee has once again funded the Undergraduate Research/Creative Project Grant Program, the purpose of which is to encourage independent research and creative projects by Sonoma State undergraduates. These funds are designed to aid undergraduates in the purchase of supplies and equipment and other expenses they may incur in their projects, such as travel to present their projects at off-campus venues.     . Ceramics Specialist is responsible for providing instruction on clay and ceramics techniques including recycling clay, glazing, hand building and  wheel throwing as well as proper firing techniques including loading and unloading a kiln. The Ceramics Specialist also implements and coordinates art activities, supervises and mentors teens, including engaging them in designing and creating various forms of artwork. The Ceramics Specialist will also follow checkout/return procedures of supplies and equipment.

    2 Units = 6 Hours per Week Scan and edit images. Learn how to use cataloging tools for recognizing, documenting, and finding images.  Learn about art history while learning how to organize a large collection.   Help photograph shows in the Art Gallery.  Migrate Metadata. CHOOSE a cataloguing project on a specific period or artist(s).

  • Instructional Student Assistant (ISA) for the Second Year Research and Creative Experience course (SYRCE) at Sonoma State University.  Job tasks include: taking pictures of the class, the symposium, and others; organizing the videotaping of the end-of-semester symposium; creating a gallery for the course website; creating a poster for the symposium.
    We are looking for someone familiar with Dream Weaver and website development, with experience with photography and video. We are seeking someone responsible, with good time-management skills, who works well alone and with a small group. ​​​​​​Must be available at least some Tuesdays from 10-11:50 AM, when the class meets, and on December 15th, 2015 from 10 AM - 2 PM.
    Up to an average of 5 hours with possibility to work overtime, and much schedule flexibility for website, photo processing/enhancing, and poster work.
