The Early Childhood Education Certificate Program is professional development designed for:

Note: You must already have a bachelor's degree to enroll in this program.

Program Description

Designed for working professionals, all courses are completely online and field experiences can be completed in your own classroom or workplace.

Finish the program over the course of one calendar year.

To earn the certificate, you must complete the following four graduate-level courses, a total of 12 units of academic credit:

EDEC 531 (summer) The Role of Play in Development and Learning
EDEC 532 (fall semester) Social and Moral Development
EDEC 538 (spring semester) Cognitive and Language Development in Early Childhood
EDEC 547 (spring semester) Advanced Field Experience

Program Prerequisites:

1. BA degree
2. Completion of at least one 3-unit course on Child Development theory and milestones (e.g. EDEC 420 at SSU or CHLD 10 at SRJC)
