Dual Language Schools Teacher Preparation

Are you interested in teaching in a bilingual setting? Are you fluent as both a reader and writer in Spanish and English? Do you want to bring those skills to a creative and rewarding career in teaching?

Sonoma State University has a program to prepare teachers for dual language and immersion public school programs

1. Having met the required prerequisites and application requirements, apply for and enroll in the Multiple Subject Teaching Credential Program. (any undergraduate major can prepare you for a credential program) Learn more about how to apply.

2. Once you are accepted to the program and identified as a future dual language teacher during your admissions and orientation process, you will be placed in one of our dual language CORE field sites-currently we offer two schools: Flowery Elementary School in Sonoma and Loma Vista in Petaluma. 3. Complete two semesters in the program as a full time student, or spread over three semesters in our flex program to earn your preliminary multiple subject credential.

4. We will help you with test prep so you can feel confident passing the CSET subtests 3, 4 and 5, authorizing you to teach in a bilingual setting. Learn more about the CSET Bootcamp Review Sessions

5. Get a job! There is a great demand of dual language teachers in our region. Every year in April, we host the Educator Job Fair here at SSU. Many of our dual language teachers entertain multiple job offers.
