Admissions for The Sonoma MBA

How do I apply?

  1. All applicants must complete BOTH online applications. Please submit the Graduate Programs Department Application first.

    2. Cal State Apply Application (Step-by-Step guide will be provided once you submit the Department Application.)
  2. Statement of Purpose (1-2 pages, double spaced, 12 pt. font)
  3. GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) Scores are Required
    1. Complete GMAT with a total score of 450 and at least 20% Quantitative.
    2. Designate that you want California State University-Sonoma (OCC8060) to receive your Official GMAT Score Report.
    *GMAT exam should be less than five years old.

    3. Must show proof of completion of a bachelor's degree.
    4. Must show proficiency in English (TOEFL, if non-English degree).
  6. Wine Industry Experience (Applies only to Sonoma MBA in Wine Business program)
    Two years of wine industry work experience, or the first two levels of the online Wine Business Management Program are required for admissions to the Sonoma Wine MBA program. To register for the program contact Erin Ringstad at
  7. Business Prerequisite Courses
    If you studied Business as an undergraduate, you most likely have completed the attached list of prerequisites. Send unofficial transcripts to for review. Prerequisites must be completed before the start of the program, but can be completed after the application deadline.

The cost of the MBA program is flexible depending on each student's degree progress and the number of courses enrolled in each semester.

For International Students

International students must meet the admissions criteria set forth by the graduate department. Students in all Sonoma MBA and EMBA programs are required to gain practical experience by a) completing an internship course, b) working for eight or more months during their MBA or EMBA program, or c) combining an internship course and work for a total of eight or more months during their MBA or EMBA program. International students may be authorized for Curricular Practical Training (CPT) to be eligible for off-campus work or internships in a position directly related to their field of study.

In addition to the school of business and economic documents, the international student admissions office will request the following from you:

Your financial documents must be no older than 6 months old. Please read carefully and complete this form and return with the proper documents
