Once you have applied to the university you can schedule an Audition to become a Music Major on one of the Department of Music Audition Days.

As a fully invested partner in music education, the department’s outreach initiatives, festivals and invitationals annually bring 2,500 secondary school students, teachers and guests to the campus.

Wind Band and Orchestra Festival Accepting Applications

Now in its sixth year, the Sonoma Invitational Wind Band & Orchestra Festival, March 7-9, 2018, is one of the Music Department’s signature educational outreach events that will feature over 40 high school ensembles from throughout California. Click here for more information and application form.

Symphony Orchestra Releases Dates for 2017-18

Alexander Kahn, conductor of the Sonoma State University Symphony Orchestra, announces the orchestra’s 2017-18 concert season. The orchestra, now in its third year under Dr. Kahn's leadership, will play four concerts in Weill Hall, October 1; November 17; March 4; April 29. Details.


Concerto Competition Winners Announced

Head judge Alexander Kahn reports the results of the SSU Orchestra Concerto Competition: And the winners are:

Jamelia Brown, soprano. R. Strauss: “Zueignung,” “Die Nacht,” and “Allerseelen,” from Acht Gedichte aus “Letzte Blätter,Op. 10 and “Cäcilie,” from Vier Lieder,Op. 27, No. 2    

Spencer Causey, horn. Mozart: Concerto No. 2 for Horn and Orchestra, K. 417

The judges agreed that all five performances were outstanding and want to congratulate and thank everyone for participating!
